On Tuesday, the Swiss Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Industries Association (Swissmem) announced that 31% of Swiss mechanical and electrical engineering enterprises are planning to relocate a portion of their operations to the European Union. This decision is fueled by the strengthening of the Swiss franc and the decline in business with the United States due to US tariffs. Currently, Switzerland faces a steep 39% tariff rate from the US, in stark contrast to the 15% rate imposed by the EU. Additionally, the Swiss franc, often considered a safe-haven currency, has appreciated by approximately 13% against the US dollar this year.
