For the first time, the national medical insurance catalog adjustment in 2025 introduced the commercial insurance innovative drug catalog, resulting in the preliminary approval of a total of 121 groundbreaking medications. Notably, approximately 60% of these drugs were also submitted for consideration in the basic medical insurance catalog, whereas 40% were exclusively applied for the commercial insurance catalog. This latter group primarily comprises treatments for rare diseases, high-cost anti-cancer drugs, and novel medications with limited clinical evidence. The commercial insurance catalog presents innovative drugs with increased payment security options; however, inclusion remains contingent upon rigorous expert review and commercial insurance decision-making processes. In their applications, pharmaceutical companies must meticulously balance the clinical efficacy, pricing, market demand of their drugs, and the strategic positioning relative to basic medical insurance coverage.
