Sharp has announced the sale of fixed assets, including land and factory buildings associated with its liquid crystal panel factory (SDP) in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, to SoftBank for approximately 4.868 billion yuan. Both parties have finalized the agreement with the signing of a sales contract. SoftBank intends to utilize these assets to construct a large-scale AI data center, scheduled to commence operations by 2026. The data center anticipates future expansion, with a potential power capacity of up to 250MW. Beyond serving internal operations such as research and development for generative AI, the center will also cater to a diverse range of external users, encompassing universities, research institutions, and enterprises.
