Hyundai Motor Group announced Friday that it will establish two special purpose companies (SPCs) next month to develop artificial intelligence (AI) data centers, advancing its strategy to expand into the AI infrastructure sector. Group affiliates Hyundai Motor, Kia, Hyundai Mobis, Hyundai Engineering & Construction, and Hyundai AutoEver will participate in the investment. The two SPCs will have distinct roles: one will oversee data center construction and infrastructure development, while the other will handle graphics processing unit (GPU)-related services. The project is scheduled to break ground in March 2027 in the Saemangeum reclamation area in Gunsan—approximately 200 kilometers southwest of Seoul—with commercial operations targeted to begin in early 2030.
