At the 2026 Shanghai Mobile World Congress (MWC) exhibition, a cutting-edge technology caught the eye: carriers are now leveraging AI to analyze users' base station access patterns. This helps them spot frequent high-speed rail travelers and suggest activating a 5G-A high-speed rail boost package. This service fine-tunes network coverage along high-speed rail routes and boosts users' internet access scheduling priority (that is, QCI/5QI Quality of Service levels), guaranteeing a stable connection on trains racing at over 300 km/h. For instance, China Mobile Guangdong teamed up with Huawei to roll out the country's inaugural 5G-A high-speed rail dedicated network acceleration service, covering the Guangzhou-Shenzhen segment of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed rail. Once subscribed, users' phones show a "China Mobile High-Speed Rail VIP" badge, letting them savor network speeds with a downlink peak rate hitting up to 3Gbps. This service can be activated online through the China Mobile APP or at physical service centers. Moreover, carriers provide tiered services, such as China Mobile's "5G-A First Class" and China Unicom's "Network Quality VIP," each linked to distinct QCI levels—the higher the priority, the smoother the online experience. While QCI standards are often shrouded in mystery across global carriers, users can install specialized software on rooted Android devices to peek at their current QCI level.
