Microsoft has issued a security alert, revealing a cyberattack launched by a hacker group with ties to the Russian government. The attackers hijack public Wi-Fi networks at hotels, conference centers, and other venues, redirecting users to fake login pages or tricking them into downloading malware to steal account credentials and gain control over devices. Since early May, the attack has targeted frequent business travelers by exploiting compromised Wi-Fi networks, redirecting traffic through tampered gateway DNS settings to bypass multi-factor authentication, and implanting malicious programs such as CornFlake and ChocoShell to steal data and monitor devices. The attack has affected multiple countries without targeting any specific industry.
