Recently, IBM, the venerable 115-year-old tech behemoth, unveiled its financial outcomes for the second quarter of 2026, and the results were a far cry from what the market had anticipated. As per the report, IBM's revenue for the quarter clocked in at $17.2 billion, marking a 1% increase year-on-year. However, it paled in comparison to analysts' projections, which ranged from $17.86 billion to $17.9 billion. The gross profit settled at $9.9 billion, with a gross margin hovering around 58%, while net income hit the $2.2 billion mark. Plagued by sluggish demand in the mainframe sector and the delay of certain corporate deals, the core infrastructure business witnessed a 7% downturn. This triggered a stock price nosedive of over 25% in a single day, the steepest decline in the company's storied history.
