Elon Musk has claimed that if SpaceX successfully meets its ambitious development targets, the company’s valuation could eventually surpass the combined worth of all other assets on Earth. His comment came in response to concerns from some observers, who worried that Anthropic’s recent $45 billion agreement with SpaceX for computing resources might complicate Anthropic’s planned initial public offering (IPO). In addition to addressing these concerns, Musk also revealed a conceptual design for the AI1 satellite, a key component of SpaceX’s upcoming Starmind satellite constellation. The AI1 satellite is engineered to be compatible with chips from multiple manufacturers and features tailored computing capabilities and configurations. The entire constellation will enable satellite-to-satellite communication through laser links and deliver AI computing power back to Earth via SpaceX’s Starlink network. Musk emphasized that leveraging AI computing capabilities in orbit represents the sole viable path to overcoming the limitations of ground-based AI computing infrastructure.
