Alibaba underscored that it is neither a Chinese military enterprise nor has it been involved in the 'civil-military integration' strategy. The company argued that its inclusion on the list is devoid of factual foundation and that the decision was made in an arbitrary and whimsical manner. Earlier, on June 8, the U.S. Department of Defense updated the list, incorporating Alibaba and several other Chinese companies. Alibaba mentioned that it had engaged in discussions with the U.S. authorities for multiple months and presented evidence, yet received no reply, only discovering the decision through the Federal Register.
