On June 23, Bloomberg reported that Masayoshi Son, the founder of SoftBank Group, stated at the annual shareholders' meeting of SoftBank's mobile division that despite Elon Musk's advocacy for establishing data centers in space, the move holds little significance, as the outcome of the AI race will ultimately be determined by computing power on Earth. Son mentioned that while building data centers in space could reduce electricity costs, compared to hardware costs such as chips, electricity expenses account for a small proportion. Moreover, it requires exorbitant costs for space transportation and maintenance, and also faces issues of communication delay. He indicated that SoftBank will focus on building robust data center capabilities on Earth.
