On June 16, the Italian Competition and Market Authority (AGCM) announced an investigation into Apple to assess its compliance with the interoperability provisions outlined in the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA). According to the DMA, Apple is required to allow third-party consumer cloud service providers to interoperate with iOS and iPadOS systems free of charge and effectively, while granting them access to the same hardware and software functionalities as Apple's iCloud under equivalent conditions. The Italian Competition Authority stated that there are already indications that third-party cloud service providers may not be receiving the same level of functional support as iCloud.
