On April 21, the Information Office of the State Council hosted a press conference to present the progress of industrial and information technology development in the first quarter of 2026. Xie Cun, a representative from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, announced that the ministry will intensify its efforts to enhance information and communication infrastructure, reinforce the competitive edge of the information and communication sector, and solidify the digital backbone for high-caliber economic and social growth. The emphasis will be placed on advancing initiatives in three crucial domains: Firstly, fostering comprehensive 5G and gigabit optical network coverage to bolster network reach and supply capabilities; Secondly, expediting the commercialization of 5G, propelling the transition from dual-gigabit to dual-terabit networks, and enabling the intelligent interconnection of all entities via mobile IoT; Thirdly, strategically organizing the research and development of pioneering technologies such as 6G and fostering collaborative innovation between the information and communication industry and other vertical sectors.
