Microsoft has announced that starting from May 2026, the Windows Autopatch enterprise-managed service will enable the hot patching security update mechanism by default. Eligible Windows PCs will be able to install patches without requiring a restart, addressing the conflict between update deployment and business continuity faced by enterprise IT administrators. Starting from April 1, 2026, devices that meet the predefined hardware conditions and have installed the April security update will enter the hot patching preparation phase. With April serving as the baseline month, after the system completes its final baseline update and restarts, new security updates will be distributed in the form of hot patches starting from May.
