To cope with the soaring data traffic spurred by applications like wearable AI gadgets and AI-driven robots, Huawei has introduced an E-band long-distance full-duplex microwave solution operating in the U6GHz frequency band. As per the core performance benchmarks outlined by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU-R) for 6G (IMT-2030), the uplink edge rate is mandated to hit 50Mbps (roughly 10 times that of 5G), while the downlink edge rate should reach 300Mbps (approximately triple that of 5G). This poses a significant challenge to the existing backhaul networks. Presently, over 60% of wireless base stations globally depend on microwave backhaul, given its swift deployment capabilities and cost-efficiency, which are vital for achieving extensive network coverage. Yet, the data traffic demands of the U6GHz band call for a substantial leap in microwave capacity. Huawei's innovative solution facilitates concurrent transmission and reception within the same frequency band, eliminating the need for additional spectrum resources. This breakthrough boosts the capacity of a single station to 50Gbps, effectively doubling the overall capacity. Alternatively, it can conserve half of the spectrum resources while preserving capacity, thereby optimizing spectrum utilization and slashing operators' total cost of ownership (TCO). The solution also strikes a balance between high capacity and long-distance transmission through a high-power RF design. At present, more than 20 operators across the globe have commenced commercial deployment plans for this cutting-edge technology.
