Recently, two state legislators in New York, U.S., have put forward a legislative proposal. This proposal seeks to impose a three-year and ninety-day moratorium on the construction of new data centers within the state. The aim is to grant the state government sufficient time to thoroughly evaluate the overall influence of these facilities on local water resources and energy consumption. Should this bill be approved, New York State will join the ranks of Georgia, Maryland, Oklahoma, Vermont, and Virginia, all of which are already considering halting data center construction. Moreover, Florida is also in the process of deliberating over similar legislation.
