According to reports from the foreign media outlet TipRanks, Microsoft is planning to launch a fresh round of large-scale layoffs during the third week of January 2026. It is estimated that between 11,000 and 22,000 employees will be impacted, which represents roughly 5% to 10% of its global workforce of approximately 220,000.

This upcoming round of layoffs will hit key business sectors within the company, encompassing the Azure cloud team, the global sales team, and the Xbox gaming division. Interestingly, despite having reported strong revenue and profits throughout 2025, Microsoft has already slashed over 15,000 positions through several rounds of layoffs. At the same time, it has been ramping up its investment in artificial intelligence systems, reallocating funds from labor expenses towards long-term investments in technological assets.
