The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) is driving a significant increase in global demand for data centers. These large facilities not only occupy vast tracts of land but also consume enormous amounts of energy and emit substantial amounts of carbon dioxide. According to a 2025 report by the International Energy Agency, global data center electricity consumption reached 415 terawatt-hours in 2024, accounting for 1.5% of the world's total electricity usage. It is projected that this figure will double to 945 terawatt-hours by 2030, equivalent to Japan's annual electricity consumption. Meanwhile, the expansion of data centers has also posed severe cooling challenges.
