In its 'World Energy Outlook 2025', the International Energy Agency (IEA) announced that the global energy investment landscape is undergoing a seismic shift. By 2025, investments linked to data centers are anticipated to hit USD 580 billion, eclipsing, for the first time, the USD 540 billion allocated to the oil supply sector. This milestone heralds the dawn of the 'Age of Electricity.' The report underscores that the proliferation of artificial intelligence (AI) and data centers stands as the pivotal force propelling the surge in electricity demand. Projections indicate that by 2030, AI facilities will witness a fivefold spike in electricity consumption, while the overall electricity usage of data centers worldwide is set to double. The United States is expected to account for roughly half of this growth, with European and Asian nations emerging as the main drivers of demand.
