NextEra Energy Inc. is set to reopen the Duane Arnold Energy Center nuclear power plant located in Iowa, with the primary intention of providing power to Google's data centers. As per an announcement made on Monday, this nuclear facility, which boasts an installed capacity of 615 megawatts, was decommissioned in 2020. However, following a deal struck with Google, it is anticipated to resume power generation and supply in 2029. This reactivation is timed to precede the surge in electricity demand spurred by the burgeoning artificial intelligence sector.
