On October 14, CNBC reported that Oracle’s Cloud Infrastructure division announced on Tuesday its plan to deploy 50,000 AMD artificial intelligence chips starting in the second half of 2026. This strategic move signals that cloud computing companies are increasingly recognizing AMD’s GPUs as a compelling alternative in the AI chip market, which is currently dominated by Nvidia.
Karan Batta, Senior Vice President of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, emphasized that customers are anticipated to eagerly embrace AMD’s offerings, especially for AI inference tasks. Oracle intends to leverage AMD’s Instinct MI450 chips, which were launched earlier this year. These chips mark AMD’s first AI chips capable of being integrated into a rack-level system, supporting the simultaneous operation of 72 chips. This capability will streamline the development and deployment of cutting-edge AI algorithms.
