At the Y Combinator event, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, disclosed that Neuralink aims to conduct the first visual implant surgery within the next 6 to 12 months. This groundbreaking initiative promises to restore vision to patients who are completely blind. This advancement signifies a significant leap in brain-computer interface (BCI) technology, expanding its scope from motor control to sensory restoration. According to reports, this technology has already been successfully tested in animal experiments, with a monkey's visual implant functioning stably for three years. The technology works by directly transmitting visual information to the cerebral cortex, enabling blind patients to regain visual perception. While the initial visual resolution may be limited, the long-term ambition is to achieve high-definition vision and even perceive spectral information, including infrared and ultraviolet light.
