On June 11, The Washington Post reported that despite opposition from government security experts, Musk's DOGE team deployed the Starlink satellite internet system at the White House in February of this year. This move raised concerns among White House communication experts who feared it could compromise national security. The installation further escalated tensions between DOGE employees and the Secret Service, as the former installed Starlink terminals on the roof of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building without informing the White House communication team. This unauthorized access allowed the White House to connect to the internet without standard tracking or authentication measures, thereby increasing the risk of data breaches or hacking attempts. While it remains uncertain whether the White House continues to utilize Starlink terminals following Musk's departure and strained relationship with Trump, other government agencies have reportedly adopted the service. Nonetheless, a Secret Service spokesperson clarified that they were aware of DOGE's intention to enhance internet connectivity on campus and did not consider the incident a security breach or vulnerability.
