A team of researchers led by King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia has created an innovative acrylate-based composite material, akin to a "smart sponge," designed to autonomously cool solar panels in harsh desert climates. This breakthrough reduces the operating temperature by an impressive 9.4°C, increases power output by 12%, slashes electricity generation costs by approximately 20%, and extends the lifespan of solar panels by more than double.
