On May 16, the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) of the US Department of Commerce issued a statement claiming that the use of Huawei's "Ascend" chips constitutes a violation of US export controls, and cautioned the public against the potential repercussions of employing US AI chips to train Chinese AI models. In response, Chinese representative Lin Jian emphasized that the US has broadened the definition of national security, misapplied export controls and "long-arm jurisdiction," and maliciously obstructed and suppressed Chinese chip products and the AI industry. This action severely breaches market rules, disrupts global supply chain stability, and infringes upon the rights and interests of Chinese enterprises. China stands firmly opposed to this and urges the US to promptly rectify its erroneous actions and cease its suppression of Chinese technology enterprises and the AI industry. China will take all necessary measures to safeguard its right to development and the rights and interests of its enterprises.
