China Association of Automobile Manufacturers: Frequent US Export Restrictions on China Impair Trust in US Chip Supply, Urging Chinese Auto Firms to Seek Alternative Suppliers
2025-01-14

On January 13, the United States Department of Commerce announced the interim final rule for its artificial intelligence proliferation export control framework, further tightening export restrictions on advanced chips to China. Prior to this, the US government had already placed 140 Chinese companies on its trade restriction list in December 2022. Li Shaohua, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, emphasized that these measures have heightened technological barriers against China, injected further uncertainty into the supply of US chips, and could potentially disrupt the production schedules and quality standards of automotive companies. In light of this, he advised industry players to exercise caution when procuring US chips in order to mitigate risks. Chinese enterprises now confront a fresh wave of export restrictions and must take proactive measures to address this challenge.
