On October 30, the State Administration for Market Regulation approved the release of two new national standards: "Basic Terminology for Biochips" and "Microarray Chips for Detecting DNA Polymorphism Associated with Human Disease Susceptibility." Both standards will take effect on February 1, 2027. Among them, "Basic Terminology for Biochips" replaces the 2011 edition, which has been in force for more than a decade, and systematically reconstructs the industry's conceptual framework. Closely aligned with technological advances and industry needs, the standard adds core terms such as nucleic acid detection chips, immunoassay chips, and organ chips, and refines basic definitions for biochips, microarray chips, and microfluidic chips. Its content covers four major sections—basic terminology, chip probes, classification of microarray chips, and classification of microfluidic chips—and encompasses the main types of products currently on the market. It helps eliminate conceptual ambiguity in technical exchanges and promotes academic research, industry collaboration, and international alignment.
