On October 29, Samsung SDI revealed on Thursday that its operating profit for the three-month period ending in September had nearly doubled from the previous quarter, hitting KRW 407.8 billion (around USD 306 million). This achievement represents its most robust quarterly performance since 2023, with net profit growth also surpassing expectations. Samsung SDI attributed this performance surge mainly to heightened sales in its energy storage system (ESS) business, propelled by the worldwide surge in artificial intelligence data centers. Throughout this year, the company has secured over 60 gigawatt-hours of ESS battery orders in the United States and intends to expedite production line conversions to cater to the escalating demand. Furthermore, Samsung SDI anticipates continued growth in the ESS market during the fourth quarter. In terms of the electric vehicle market, the company expects demand in Europe to rise, while the sluggish demand in the United States may linger temporarily.
