South Korean memory chip giant SK Hynix recently warned that despite aggressive industry-wide capacity expansions, driven by the growth of artificial intelligence, demand for high-performance memory will continue to outpace supply growth, potentially prolonging the global memory chip shortage until 2030. SK Hynix stated that AI investments have expanded to ordinary enterprises and the national level, with the global AI data center infrastructure market expected to sustain growth. In the short term, the memory market is being led by demand from enterprise and consumer-grade AI, while in the medium to long term, it will be driven by autonomous vehicles, robotics, and other sectors. However, on the supply side, constraints such as the increasing technical difficulty of advanced manufacturing processes and the lengthy time required to build new production facilities are expected to perpetuate a supply-demand imbalance until 2030.
