Samsung Electronics’ largest labor union has announced its intention to include a proposal to relax the bonus penalty system for unprofitable divisions within its chip business as a key agenda item in next year’s wage and collective bargaining discussions. The union clarified to its members that, while this initiative might result in reduced bonuses for employees in the memory division, it nonetheless secured the backing of 80% of those who participated in the vote. This strategic move is designed to rally support from workers in non-memory areas, such as foundry and System LSI (Large-Scale Integration), thereby fostering a unified stance within the semiconductor division ahead of separate negotiations next year.
On the 22nd, the Samsung Electronics branch of the cross-industry labor union, known as the 'Chosun Enterprise Labor Union,' reported that the proposal to amend the 'DS (Device Solutions) Loss Penalty Mechanism' was approved by an overwhelming majority, with 81.03% of votes cast in favor. The voting process, which took place from the 14th until 10:00 AM on the day of the announcement, saw active participation from 33,256 members, with 26,947 casting affirmative votes. The union is now set to compile these demands and integrate them into the agenda for the 2027 labor-management negotiations, marking a significant step in shaping the future of compensation and performance evaluation within Samsung’s semiconductor operations.
