Recently, a British netizen shared a post on Reddit, recounting an incident where, during the testing of a four-card RTX 5090 Large Language Model (LLM) workstation, the main power plug and wall outlet suffered severe melting. The 13A fuse, it turned out, was unable to bear the electrical load, leading to its failure. However, remarkably, the 12V-2x6 connectors on all four graphics cards remained unscathed. Prior to this, there had been numerous reports of similar incidents involving the melting and burning of the 12V-2x6 power connectors on RTX 5090 graphics cards. This latest occurrence has once again sparked concerns regarding the potential safety hazards in the power supply design of graphics cards.
