Based on information from sources well-informed about the situation, amid the United States' efforts to entice global chip firms to establish manufacturing facilities within its borders, South Korean memory chip behemoth SK Hynix is engaged in negotiations with Washington. The company aims to secure permission to export a greater volume of U.S.-manufactured semiconductor equipment to its Chinese plants, thereby enhancing production capabilities. SK Hynix has made this approval a prerequisite for proceeding with plans to construct a new plant in the United States. Its U.S. subsidiary, Solidigm, intends to install new equipment in the unused space at SK Hynix's Dalian factory to increase NAND flash memory production capacity. This endeavor necessitates tools from U.S. manufacturers like Applied Materials, Lam Research, and KLA. However, this cannot move forward without the green light from Washington. The revenue generated from the production expansion in China will be earmarked to fund the new U.S. plant. Reuters has previously reported that Solidigm is contemplating the construction of a NAND factory in the United States and is also weighing the possibility of an initial public offering (IPO) as early as next year to provide financial backing for the U.S. plant.
