On October 15th, Zhejiang University announced a groundbreaking discovery by Chinese scientists: for the first time, they have identified a novel 'interlayer folding buckle' structure and its underlying mechanism within graphene films. This breakthrough facilitates a synergistic improvement in the material's strength, toughness, and elasticity. The pertinent research findings were published online at 23:00 Beijing Time on the 14th in the esteemed international academic journal Nature.

Previously, efforts to enhance the mechanical properties of graphene films were hampered by the challenge of 'balancing strength and toughness.' Traditional approaches typically focused on either improving the alignment regularity of graphene sheets or bolstering the interlayer bonding force. However, this new study transcends the conventional 'planar stacking' design paradigm, constructing a graphene film with an interlayer interlocking folding buckle structure.
