On October 15, global tech hardware stocks continued to face sell-offs on Thursday. Affected by expectations of a Federal Reserve interest rate hike and funding challenges in the AI sector, shares of Asian chipmakers fell in line with U.S. stocks. South Korea's Samsung Electronics saw its stock price drop by over 7%, while SK Hynix fell more than 8%, causing the Korean KOSPI index to slide by over 6% at one point. The Nikkei 225 index also dropped more than 3% during the session, with Tokyo Electron and Screen Holdings both falling by 3%. Market concerns intensified over rising interest rates, high valuations, and the massive capital requirements for AI infrastructure construction, undermining investor confidence. Despite strong earnings reports from Samsung and ASML, market sentiment failed to improve. Meanwhile, shares of AI cloud infrastructure company CoreWeave plummeted, and its bond prices fell to levels reflecting corporate financial distress, raising investor doubts about the sustainability of large-scale AI infrastructure investments. Previously released data showed that U.S. CPI growth in September hit a five-month high, further fueling market expectations of a Federal Reserve interest rate hike.
