With global memory prices on a continuous upward trajectory, Microsoft has identified minimizing memory usage in Windows 11 as a pivotal objective for its future development. Pavan Davuluri, who leads Microsoft's Windows and Devices division, emphasized that the escalating memory costs pose a substantial hurdle for the entire PC sector and serve as a key motivator for Windows 11 to curtail RAM utilization. Microsoft has officially designated "optimization for systems with 8GB of memory or more" as a top priority for 2026, with initiatives underway across various domains, including the memory manager, memory compression techniques, WinUI 3, WebView2, and beyond. Through the implementation of WinUI 3, Microsoft is revamping Windows, optimizing it from the foundational system architecture up to the application layer. The aim is to diminish memory consumption for both applications and the system as a whole, guaranteeing that non-essential features do not hog memory when inactive, and ultimately creating a more streamlined and lightweight base system.
