Fresh leaks have surfaced regarding AMD's upcoming handheld processor, the Ryzen Z3 series. Based on the information revealed, the Ryzen Z3 will boast a semi-custom design rooted in the Zen 6 architecture. The CPU segment of this processor is expected to house 6 cores and 12 threads, while integrating up to 12 RDNA 4m compute units. In contrast to the existing Ryzen Z2 Extreme, which is configured with 8 cores, 16 threads, and 16 CUs, the new generation witnesses a decrease in both CPU cores and GPU compute units. Nevertheless, AMD endeavors to reallocate CPU and GPU resources more efficiently within the constraints of limited power consumption, leveraging a cutting-edge architecture and a design specifically crafted for handheld devices. The Ryzen Z3's CPU adopts a hybrid architecture, comprising 4 high-performance Zen 6 cores and 2 energy-efficient Zen 5 cores. Meanwhile, the GPU is outfitted with 12 RDNA 4m compute units. When compared to the standard Medusa Point, the Ryzen Z3 has shed 4 Zen 6c cores, redirecting the chip area and power allocation towards enhancing GPU capabilities. In terms of power efficiency, the standard version of the Ryzen Z3 is optimized for a 15W power envelope, whereas the Z3 Extreme version is designed to operate at 25W. For packaging, the Ryzen Z3 utilizes AMD's compact FF6 package, measuring 25×25 millimeters, which is notably smaller than the FP8 package employed by Strix Point.
