On September 14, news emerged that Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have declined a plan put forward by Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). The plan suggested that the two tech giants jointly make an upfront payment of 25 trillion won in electricity bills over a span of five years. Considering the unpredictable future landscape of the industry, these companies are of the opinion that such a substantial upfront payment could place a strain on their medium- and long-term business strategies. Previously, KEPCO had put forth a proposal where Samsung would prepay 20 trillion won and SK Hynix would prepay 5 trillion won in electricity fees. The main purpose of these funds was to be channeled into investing in essential power grid infrastructure.
