At SIGGRAPH 2026, NVIDIA announced that DLSS 5 technology will be an exclusive feature for RTX 50 series graphics cards. Its core lies in three AI models that rely on Blackwell architecture-based hardware scheduling units, enabling only the RTX 50 series to fully unleash its potential, while the RTX 4090 cannot support it. Despite the RTX 4090's still-powerful hardware specifications, featuring 16,384 CUDA cores and 24GB of VRAM, it maintains a roughly 15% lead over the RTX 5080 in 4K rasterized gaming when AI enhancement technologies are disabled. However, this dynamic will change with the introduction of DLSS 5. The RTX 5080 leverages its built-in Flip-metering multi-frame scheduling hardware unit to support DLSS 4.5's multi-frame generation technology, significantly boosting its performance in real-world gaming applications. The AI model complexity of DLSS 5 has increased markedly, with core library files over three times larger than the previous generation, suggesting that its smoothness in launch-title games may surpass that of the RTX 4090. Additionally, the RTX 5080 consumes 90W less power than the RTX 4090 and is priced over 4,000 RMB cheaper at launch, further enhancing its market competitiveness. Currently, 15 games have confirmed launch-day support for DLSS 5, and with the technology's official rollout, the RTX 50 series graphics cards are poised to achieve a qualitative leap in gaming performance.
