A top executive from Qualcomm Technologies revealed that hyperscale cloud service providers are highly interested in High Bandwidth Computing (HBC) technology. Qualcomm is teaming up with memory makers to push forward its commercial use. With the explosive growth of Transformer models, which is outpacing the expansion of computing memory bandwidth and capacity, traditional HBM solutions are grappling with problems like poor energy efficiency, high supply demands, and rising Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for cloud service providers. To tackle these issues, Qualcomm rolled out its data center business strategy at the Investor Day event in June this year, introducing HBC technology with a near-memory computing setup. This innovation slashes power consumption and boosts effective bandwidth compared to HBM, effectively easing the memory bottleneck. Right now, several hyperscale cloud providers are in technical talks with Qualcomm and have given positive responses.
