On August 10, as reported by Reuters, Kang Hoon-sik, the Chief of Staff to the President of South Korea, announced on Monday that South Korea is set to establish a semiconductor fund worth 5 trillion won (roughly equivalent to $3.52 billion). This fund will primarily focus on investments in chip materials, components, and fabless companies, aligning with the government's strategic plan to develop chip clusters. Concurrently, the government will allocate 5 trillion won in trade financing to bolster export-oriented suppliers. Moreover, it aims to enact the 'Mega Special Industrial Complex Act' within the current year, with the goal of expediting permit approvals, environmental evaluations, and infrastructure development in pertinent areas. Furthermore, the government has outlined plans to ensure a water supply of 650,000 tons for semiconductor projects in the Honam region by 2030. Additionally, the Yongin semiconductor cluster is projected to receive a planned power supply of 14.7 billion watts by 2041.
