On August 6, Japan's SoftBank Group announced its quarterly financial results, revealing a smaller-than-expected decline in net profit. This was primarily driven by the appreciation of its chip-related investment portfolio, while the company also awaits further gains from its investment in OpenAI. In the first fiscal quarter, SoftBank's net profit fell by 18% to 347.3 billion yen (approximately $2.2 billion), with unrealized gains from chipmaker investments offsetting the impact of declining valuations at startups. Previously, the market had expected SoftBank's net profit to be around 166 billion yen.
