Guo Luzheng, the CEO of memory chip behemoth SK Hynix, has sounded the alarm, stating that while the consumer electronics sector is currently in disarray owing to chip inflation, 2027 is poised to be the most challenging year for supply in the memory chip industry. He anticipates that customer demand will persistently surpass the company's supply capabilities until after 2030. As per a report from research institute DigiTimes, propelled by the soaring demand for AI and structural bottlenecks in production capacity, the price of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) is projected to double by 2027. The chairman of a prominent memory module manufacturer, Adata, disclosed that memory chip prices are set to keep climbing in the third quarter of 2026, with DRAM and NAND Flash prices witnessing substantial hikes. UBS has also substantially elevated its price forecasts for memory chips, with DRAM and NAND Flash quotes expected to keep increasing in both the third and fourth quarters.
