On July 10, US Secretary of Commerce Lutnick urged Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix to ramp up their efforts in expanding memory chip production within the United States. This initiative is geared towards easing the scarcity of critical components essential for the advancement of global artificial intelligence. Lutnick acknowledged ongoing discussions with the two South Korean tech giants but refrained from divulging specific particulars. He emphasized that, despite potential resistance from Micron's CEO Mehrotra to increased competition in the US market, such a step is imperative for fortifying the stability of the US chip supply chain. Lutnick remarked, "While Mehrotra may not be pleased, my goal is to persuade his rivals, Samsung and SK Hynix, to establish manufacturing facilities in the US. Micron currently holds a leading position, and it's only natural for other firms to aspire to that level, prompting them to follow suit."
