On June 27, 2026, foreign media reported that, in a bid to mitigate cost pressures stemming from escalating memory chip prices, Apple is actively lobbying the U.S. government for the go-ahead to source memory chips from ChangXin Memory Technologies, a prominent Chinese semiconductor firm. Notably, both ChangXin Memory Technologies and Yangtze Memory Technologies have been included on the U.S. Department of Defense's 'List of Chinese Military Companies.' However, it's important to clarify that this designation does not, as a rule, directly bar commercial dealings. Presently, the global memory chip sector is predominantly controlled by three key players: Micron Technology from the United States, along with Samsung and SK Hynix from South Korea.
