According to reports, Intel is set to unveil a new generation of processors, dubbed Raptor Lake Next, in a bid to prolong the lifecycle of the Raptor Lake platform. This strategic move is designed to alleviate the DDR4 inventory challenges currently faced by the memory market. By ensuring continued compatibility with DDR4 memory, Intel aims to further deplete existing stocks, with gaming laptops emerging as a pivotal market segment. Raptor Lake Next is slated for release in early 2027. The desktop lineup will encompass a range of power consumption and core configurations, including a flagship 125W 16-core model and a mainstream 65W 20-core variant. The mobile iteration will focus solely on the HX variant, tailored for high-performance gaming laptops and supporting DDR4 memory to provide budget-friendly choices. This series will maintain the use of the Intel 7 process and Raptor Lake Refresh architecture, and will be compatible with the LGA1700 socket, marking it as Intel's most enduring desktop platform in recent memory. Furthermore, Intel's approach takes cues from AMD's tactic of extending the lifespan of older platforms, catering to mainstream market needs through cost-effective upgrade paths.
