As reported by South Korean media, employees in non-semiconductor divisions at Samsung Electronics have been donning black attire and face masks to work as a form of protest against the stark bonus discrepancies within the company. The root of the unrest stems from an agreement Samsung reached with its labor union earlier this year, which established a special performance bonus exclusively for the semiconductor division. According to the agreement, when the annual operating profit surpasses KRW 200 trillion (between 2026 and 2028) or KRW 100 trillion (from 2029 to 2035), semiconductor employees are entitled to a special bonus amounting to 10.5% of the annual operating profit.
