As reported by Tom's Hardware, Nelson Duann, the Vice President of Silicon Motion, revealed at Computex 2026 that during the first half of 2026, the retail solid-state drive (SSD) market catering to end-users has almost completely dried up. With NAND manufacturers channeling the majority of their production capacity towards the enterprise market, PC OEMs find themselves unable to secure adequate supplies directly from these manufacturers. Consequently, they are compelled to seek complete drive solutions from module vendors. This shift has led to the near-total disappearance of the retail SSD market.
