On June 17 (Wednesday), the U.S. government unveiled a significant move: it will allocate $500 million to SandboxAQ. This funding is earmarked for the company's research and development endeavors focused on discovering novel chemicals and materials essential for domestic semiconductor production within the United States, with a particular emphasis on finding alternatives to PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances). This grant forms a part of the research funding allocated by the Trump administration under the CHIPS Act. Prior to this, the initiative had already injected $150 million into procuring new chip manufacturing equipment and $2 billion into the burgeoning field of quantum computing. Backed by NVIDIA, SandboxAQ achieved a valuation of $5.75 billion in April 2025 and has successfully raised over $1 billion in total funding to date.
