Recently, Gou Jiazhang, General Manager of Silicon Motion Technology—a front-runner in the storage controller sector—remarked at a corporate event that the current global production capacity for storage chips is significantly inadequate, with demand vastly outstripping supply. Consequently, he noted, the industry’s cycle of price increases is set to persist. Gou pointed out that the burgeoning demand for AI inference has triggered concurrent shortages of three core storage components: High Bandwidth Memory (HBM), NAND Flash, and Hard Disk Drives (HDDs). This has generated a robust "pull" demand. It is anticipated that both DRAM and NAND Flash will remain in short supply throughout 2026, with the situation in 2027 still uncertain. Furthermore, Gou expressed optimism regarding the long-term growth prospects of domestic storage companies. He believes that China’s ongoing investments in the storage industry are steadily expanding, and its industrial foundation is progressively solidifying.
