According to the latest reports out of South Korea, Samsung Foundry has made a notable leap forward in the large-scale production of its 4nm FinFET technology, achieving a yield rate that surpasses 80%. This achievement signifies the formal maturation of this advanced process, marking a pivotal milestone in Samsung’s pursuit to close the gap with TSMC in the realm of cutting-edge semiconductor manufacturing. Since the introduction of its 4nm process in 2021, Samsung has been diligently refining the technology, boosting the yield from an initial estimate of around 35% to its current impressive level. This improvement has not gone unnoticed, as Samsung has successfully regained orders from key clients such as Google and AMD. Looking ahead, Samsung is set to extend the application of its 4nm process to the production of HBM4 substrate chips by 2026, with plans to supply this advanced technology to NVIDIA.
