With its memory business reaping skyrocketing profits and union sentiment on the rise, Samsung Electronics is internally deliberating a strategy nicknamed the 'nuclear option'. This involves spinning off its entire semiconductor business unit, Device Solutions (DS), into a separate company, aiming to curtail the union's bargaining clout at the corporate level. According to reports, as the profits of Samsung's memory business soar, employees in other, less profitable divisions are also voicing demands for higher salaries and bonuses, fueling discontent among the management ranks.
